FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Where can I get the Driver’s Handbook from?
A. Transport Sa Customer Service Centres and RAA shops sell the Drivers Handbook. The current price is $5.00. You can also download a copy of the book go to www.transport.sa.gov.au and follow the links to Learners Permit.

Q. What if I fail the Theory Test?
A. You can re-sit the test on the same day after paying the fee again. We recommend that you don’t do this. It is better to go away and study more before another attempt.

Q. How long does my L Licence last?
A. Two years. If the licence expires you will need to re-sit the theory test to renew it.

Q. Can I be picked up at home or do I have to meet the Instructor somewhere?
We will pick you up from home, school, work, or wherever you need to be picked up from (within reason) as long as it is organised in advance. Obviously, if you normally have lessons in Hallett Cove for example, we might not be able to pick you up from Moonta!

Q. How can I pay for the lessons?
The normal way is to pay as you go. Instructors don’t have credit card facilities so cash, cheque (check the full name of the Instructor) or money order is OK.

Q. I’ve heard that I can’t wear thongs when driving. Is this true?
Yes. You must not wear shoes that are loose around the heel part of your foot. It could get stuck under your foot of pedal. There is also an insurance issue. If you have an accident and the Police spot that your footwear is not appropriate, your insurance could be voided.

Q. Can I have longer than two hours?
Yes. Just add $30 for each extra half an hour that you do.

Q. How many lessons will I need?
This is the most common question and it is also the most difficult to answer. The amount of lessons you will need will depend on;

- How much you can do already
- How much of a natural driver you are
- How frequently you have lessons (one hour every two weeks will not get you there very quickly)
- What kind of practice you get between lessons.
- THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE. HOW OFTEN YOU PRACTICE. If you are taking longer to learn things it could be
that you need to drive more frequently in between lessons.

Q. As soon as I have done my 50 hours supervised driving, can I get my P’s?
Only if you have completed the CBT course or passed a VORT

Q. Once I have completed my course or passed a VORT can I get my P’s.
Only once you have recorded  a minimum of 50 hours supervised driving. You can finish your CBT Course or take a VORT but can not get your P’s until you have the hours recorded.

Q. My friend and I would like to have some further training. Can we do the sessions together?
Yes. We can train up to three people in the car together. Rates will be different but you will be able to learn from each other at less cost per person.

Q. Do you give feedback to parents?
Yes, if you want us to. Parents can sit in on the sessions if they like. If not, our Instructors are happy to talk to parents about how to make you safer.

Q. Can I do the sessions in my car?
Yes, as long as you have comprehensive insurance.
